Christmas and GIS
This short entry displays a recent Christmas themed map I made using QGIS and Google Trends. The map below features in the Christmas and New Year Map Gallery initiative which is free to view and download at the link below.
My map is titled “Christmas Trends” and it illustrates the relative number of google searches which included the word “Christmas” across every December between 2015 and 2020. I chose to use QGIS for the map based on the useful formatting options on the Print Layout viewer. Some useful additions include the gradient background to illustrate a night sky, short dashes behind the map which act as snowfall, and a shadow around the USA boundary to give the effect of snow collecting in certain areas.
